Summertime is here to stay for a while longer and so are fun beach trips, especially here in the great state of North Carolina. Even when the official end of summer season passes, the hot temps and summer weather is usually around through most of September. North Carolina is home to several beautiful beaches and living in the Triangle area makes it so easy to get there. Some are even great spots for a day trip if you’re not able to stay longer. Centrally located, you’re only just a few hours away from sun, sand and surf. It’s so convenient you can make a day trip out of it. Get up early, pack up the car and hit the road. In a matter of a couple of hours you’ll find yourself sitting in the sand listening to the sounds of crashing waves.
A great choice for a day trip is to the Wilmington/Wrightsville area. Get together all the appropriate beach essentials – chairs, towels, beach bag and umbrella – and make it a summer day to remember. Pack a lunch, spend most of the day by the ocean relaxing and before heading back home, stop somewhere for dinner. There are plenty of places by the water where you can sit outside and continue to enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
North Carolina is home to the Outer Banks which is further from the Triangle area so it would be a great option for an extended weekend away or even a week-long vacation. The Outer Banks is home to many beaches, including Duck, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Rodanthe and more. If you decide on a family vacation, there is plenty to do for kids. Rent bikes and take them out for the day. Visit the Wright Brothers National Memorial located in Kill Devil Hills. Interested in learning how to surf? No problem! Sign up for surf lessons while at the beach. There’s nothing like leaving for a trip and then coming home having learned something new.
There is certainly no shortage of beaches in the state of North Carolina. Other coastal destinations are Atlantic Beach, Topsail Beach, Carolina Beach, Bald Head Island and Ocean Isle Beach. Wherever you decide to go, there really is no wrong choice. Plan your time by the coast, whether it’s for one day or seven days, and mark your calendar. Mark your calendar for fun and lasting memories you’ll cherish forever.
