Do you ever ask yourself “Why do I leave the feeling of driving a sports car to my imagination? Why not indulge myself?” They’re both excellent questions, and they can be answered by getting behind the wheel of a 2014 Regal GS.

Car and Driver did just that recently, testing both the 2014 Regal GS and the updated Regal Turbo with their new all-wheel-drive systems. This year, the high class versions of the Regal come equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with twin turbochargers and direct injection. Both cars are slightly heavier than previously, but you’d never know it. The engine’s good for 259 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, and it accelerates the Regal GS from 0 to 60 in just 6.2 seconds. The Regal Turbo hits 60 after only 6.6 seconds.

The all-wheel-drive system gives an edge to the Regal GS, providing greater stability and handling along with its Hi-Per struts. The suspension is also improved by two driver-selectable modes, Sport and GS, which accentuate steering and throttle control when employed.

It takes a sharp eye to pick out changes in exterior design from last year to 2014, but the interior of the GS has seen a notable update. Both the instrument panel and center consoles have been redesigned, featuring fewer press-able buttons and more capacitive touch adjusters. Forward-collision, blind-spot, and lane-departure detection systems are all available in the 2014 model, as are adaptive cruise control and pre-collision braking. The 2014 Regal can take care of you – if you need it to – while you satisfy your sports car desires.
